Offline Zone

Offline? What used to be access is now - since we are all inside - the exit.

Switzerland’s largest coffee house introduces an offline zone.

Almost twenty years ago, our hotel was one of the first to offer free Wi-Fi as a matter of course. Today, more and more people are asking themselves: How do we get off the net again? Out of the constant availability? Into - well, what actually? Into being present in analog space. Into attention in the here and now.
We believe the new need is called “offline”. Places where we cannot be reached digitally, where we are not followed by news tickers and where we can escape the ever-present digital world. On the street, on the train, at the table, in bed and, not least, in the coffee house - a large part of our attention is focused on screens.
In the past, it was important to be available anywhere and at any time. We want to set a new trend with the offline zone. Since mid-October 2018, the area under the glass dome of the coffee house - the middle of the “center” - has been “offline”. Anyone spending time there closes the screen and sets their smartphone to flight mode. A line on the floor marks the online/offline areas.
The equal coexistence in the smoking issue has proven its worth - “fumare non fumare”. The same goes for freedom of consumption. Now we are curious to see how our guests will use the new offline offer. Of course, WLAN is still available for everyone.
